astrophysics??????? i really want to study astrophysics (kinda a rocket scientest) i would like to know how many years would i have to take in college to get your Phd and what would be the absolute best college?? serious answers only . im very fascinate by the stars and space.
What is the difference between Astrophysics and Astronomy? What is the difference between Astronomy and Astrophysics? I'm so interested in this kind of area and I want to know which course is more for me. I got the impression that Astrophysics is much more "mathsy" but I'm not overly sure of which bits are different....
What's the difference between Astronomy and Astrophysics? Judging by the names, my guess would be: Astrophysics: Study of the physics and structure of the sky and what it contains (planets, etc). Astronomy: General study of the sky, planets, etc and general behaviour of it without going too deeply into the physical make-up of it.
What are the careers to pursue, involving theoretical astrophysics? Greetings. I request an elaborate answer, about the careers available for a PhD in theoretical astrophysics. I also request information about the courses and institutions to get along with to hold a PhD degree in the subject. Serious answers appreciated. Thanks in advance! Thanks! All aswers are great... Specially applies to Larry... Thanks mate! Gee, Will... Thanks
Is astrophysics a good major to study if I want it to be part of my career? What are the practical jobs that involve astrophysics? I don't care about getting rich but as long as the pay is decent enough for me to get by, I would like to have a job that I really enjoy, and at the moment I am really interested in the realm of astrophysics. Also, what level of education do I need and what is the career path that I need to take?Your help is much appreciated!
What do you suggest I should do if I want to study astrophysics in university? I am going to college next year and I am really fascinated about cosmology, I have been ever since I was about 6. I want to study astrophysics in university but I want to improve my chance of becoming succesful in astrophysics. For my a levels I have chosen chemistry, physics, maths and biology. I want to know what books I should read, what activities I should do etc, to improve my knowledge and ability of astrophysics.
What kind of math is used in Astrophysics and Theoretical Physics? I am okay in math but not the best. I am okay in Geometry but strong in Algebra. I am also very interested in Astrophysics and Theoretical Physics. What kind of math is employed by the following sciences? If I am not a super genius in math, is their no hope for me as a Physicist? And lastly, I am a sophomore in High School. What are some good books to delve more into these sciences? Thanks!
What would be the best college for astrophysics? I want to go to college for astrophysics and i would like to know what would be the best place to go. I would also like to know what courses i should take and what type of degree I would need.
Does anyone know of a good high school astrophysics curriculum? I'm homeschooled and I'm starting electives this year. I'm extremely interested in space, and I want to be an astrophysist, so I thought a small astrophysics course would make a great elective. The problem is, I can't find one. Anybody got any ideas on where I could find one? Thanks!
What university in Australia offers astronomy/astrophysics? I want to study astronomy and/or astrophysics in Australia, my home country. Its too expensive to go to America or somewhere, but if there is nowhere good in Australia, I'll be going to the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Any ideas on good universities I could study at?
what college has a good astrophysics program? i want to major in astrophysics, and i really really want to go to uc berkeley. i think i have a pretty good chance of getting in, but i want to know what other schools i can apply to that have a good astrophysics program, just in case. i'm a high school senior right now going through the college search/application process.
How much math is involved in advanced astonomy, physics and astrophysics? My Science average has always been 100 but my math has always been in the high 80s low 90s, i am looking to pursue a career in astrophysics and astronomy, how hard will the math get. will my struggle in math possibly prevent me from getting a career in science? What math do you think is primarily used in astrophysics? Thanks!
Which of these colleges is best for Astrophysics/ Physics and Astronomy? I just need a little more advice on which college I should attend. Right now my top three picks (not in an order) are: Boston University University of Arizona Case Western I also got accepted to: University of Wisconsin Madison University of Massachusetts Amherst I wanted to major in Astrophysics/ Physics and Astronomy or something similar. I also plan to attend graduate school. Which college has the best Astrophysics/ Physics and Astronomy program? And any other suggestions or comments? Thanks!
How to join NASA as a Planetary or Astrophysics Scientist? I am a Physics Graduate from India and would like to work on Advanced Planetary Science exploration, hence I want to know how to or what are the parameters / prerequisites / qualifications to join NASA as an Indian? Will a PhD in Astrophysics or Planetary Science be enough?
Is 27 too old too start a degree in astrophysics from scratch? Hi, I'm thinking of getting the ball rolling in learning physics and maths from A-level standard and working up to a degree in astrophysics as i am extremely interested in it. The only option is using the open university to obtain my degree as i have to work at the same time to keep alive!!!.....How long do you think it will take me to obtain this degree and is it worth it in the end?? won't i be too old to get a job as an astrophysicist???? please advise, Thanks
Can you suggest a good primer on astrophysics for the lay person? I'm looking for a set of references and/or websites that could give me a basic course in "astrophysics for dummies". I find the topic fascinating, and am currently working on a sci fi novel and would like to do some serious research first. I've noticed that the Dummies series of books publishes a book called "Astronomy for Dummies" but I'd like to make sure that this really isn't just "Stargazing for Dummies" or some really primitive treatise on the subject.
What career options are there for astrophysics majors? Is a post-grad degree necessary? I'll be graduating next spring with a degree in Astrophysics, and minors in Art and Math. I'm not sure whether my GPA is going to survive very well (E&M is trying to kill me) so I don't know whether I'll be able to get into a good grad school. If I don't go to grad school, I don't really know what my options are. Is there any market for a Bachelors in Astrophysics? I've thought about museum work, but I don't know what I would have to do to go about it. Would scientific magazines take anyone without journalism classes?
do you need to be a genius to get a career in astrophysics? im 16,and looking for a career, im okay at math and logic, but nowhere near genius level, astrophysics has always fascinated me though! can i realistically be successful as an astrophysicist? i'd prefer if answerers actually did it in college, or had some experience of what its like.
Astrophysics? After i get mt PhD in astrophysics where do i go from there if i want to be an astronaut? Im only 12 its fo a project.. haha so its ok im good 4 now =]
what are the good universities for studying cosmology and astrophysics? We twins are in 1st year of a high school. We have pre-engineering and a wast knowledge of space. We have studied many books on space and many articles and watched many videos. We always go to the library just to study about space. Further we want to study astronomy. We are confused for choosing a right university. Can you help us?
What is does space mean in astrophysics and how can space "bend"? Matter occupies physical "space." Volume is a measure of the amount of space an object occupies. How could the fringes of the universe be expanding into non-space? How can one possibly explain the creation of space by the expansion of the universe? If matter can neither be created nor destroyed, how can space? If a spaceship were able to reach the outside of the universe and actually surpass it completely, venturing beyond the universe into "nothingness," what would happen? Would the spacecraft create more space due to its own gravity or would it simply occupy more space that was already there? Would it be destroyed or create some kind of logical paradox?
What are some good astrophysics books? I'm about to start the tough part of my undergrad work in physics, and I would like to specialize in astrophysics. I was hoping for some advice on which books are a good introduction to this topic...to sort of get the basics down.
Astrophysics question regarding expansion of the universe? I undersatand that the Big Bang is similar to an exploding bomb except that a bomb creates a temporary vacuum that eventually dissipates. The Universe is different in that respect in that space itself is expanding. I am struggling to understand the concept of space expanding. So, for arguments' sake, lets suspend some rules of physics for the purpose of asking the question: If I were to be able to place a baseball sized amount of "space" on a table, could I witness it's growth? And are planets, stars, and other solid objects expanding proportionately with the Universe?
Does anyone know the best astronomy and astrophysics colleges? I'm a sophmore and I don't want to wait around at the last moment to find a college. I don't wanna go to just any college either. I want to get my degree, and get a career in this field. I'm positively sure I want this category because nothing entertains me like the math equations, science, and of course, the stars.
Do you have a PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics or Cosmology? I know some, but very little, about this subject. I read answers that are "all over the map" or should I say "all over the cosmos" . It would be most helpful to have answers from someone who can communicate to a layman and who actually knows something. I would like to thank all of you for your excellent answers.
Astrophysics question regarding galactic collisions? I am to understand that the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way Galaxy are on a collision course that should occur in several hundred million years or so. Due to the vast distances of the stellar objects in galaxies, I began to wonder, as M31 appears closer to us it should become so large that it would appear to lose it's definition. I'm speaking of the point of perspective effect that is similar to the one of bringing your eye closer to a window screen and the spaces appearing larger as you get nearer. Certainly the positions of stars in our galaxy would change and some collisions would occur but there really isn't much to witness due to stellar distances. Do you agree that at some point the Andromeda Galaxy would appear less as a galaxy and more like a slightly denser population of stars in the observable sky?
How can I get a masters in astrophysics, assuming I dont have? a B.S. in either astronomy or physics, but do have somewhat of an engineering foundation, I also have a A.S. in Geology and a B.A. in Economics. Can I get an A.S. In astronomy and physics and use that as entry into a Masters program. What kind of dedication would I need for this.
