How does Quantum Mechanics work?

I need the basic definition of Quantum Mechanics. nothing to complicated. pretend like im a 4th grader

1. quantum mechanics means the power within any atomic particle which helps it to move beyond a certain force.....for example if u kick a football up it will go to some height and will come down..........but in quantum mechanics even though the force you applied is exhausted the ball does not come down........the force helps it to move further upwards!
2. i think the problem with describing quantum mechanics "as if to a fourth grader" is that people who write books on it say that if you think you understand quantum, you obviously don't it sort of picks up where regular mechanics leaves off describing issues of particles and the particle wave duality of light, it explains things from the stand point of probabilities and waves as opposed to regular mechanics which involves things large enough to conform to Newtonian ideas (Isaac Newton's basic laws)
